Altruism is a particular kind of prosocial behavior. This prosocial behavior is motivated by an individual’s desire to share and help others without any expectations. Altruism is the concern for the welfare of others, even at a risk or cost to oneself. It is the opposite of selfishness.

Nannies can encourage altruistic behavior by helping children to understand how their actions and words affect others.  Nannies can also model altruistic behavior to encourage children to behave altruistically. When children have opportunities to help others, they learn to behave altruistically. When children feel responsible for someone or something they are more likely to act altruistically.
