Misconception: Children Shouldn’t be Around When Their Mother is Dying

Reality: People often don’t want to expose children to the harsh reality of illness and death. This is a very common phenomenon in North America. In other parts of the world (and throughout history), children have been at the bedsides of their dying family members. Excluding them can keep them from being able to say goodbye. However, if they don’t want to be by their mother’s side, respect their wishes.
